Estes Express Aquires GI Trucking

Well, I guess it's time to update our databases. Estes Express, a very dependable LTL carrier has bought out GI Trucking.

Here's an excerpt from Estes's web site:

RICHMOND, VA – Estes Express Lines today announced 100 percent acquisition of Los Angeles-based carrier G.I. Trucking, effectively expanding Estes' U.S. territory to provide service to 46 states, coast to coast.

The two companies already had a strong relationship through their 10-year-old, less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier network, ExpressLINK. Estes has also maintained joint ownership of G.I. Trucking since 2001, when Estes Express and the senior management of G.I. teamed up to purchase G.I. Trucking from then-owner Arkansas Best Corporation.

Please visit the Estes Express web site for more information.

For now, the question I pose is how will this change affect Estes's historically good service, and operations?

I am looking forward to watching this unfold, and I urge anyone to post their comments concerning this aquisition.

Estes Express has been a very solid LTL carrier for a long time primarily within the South.

A couple of years ago they expanded into North and parts of the East. They handled that expansion very well, not missing a beat with their service.

They are still one of the most profitable carriers in the U.S.A.

Estes just recently purchased GI Trucking, a La Miranda, Ca LTL carrier; Rob Estes, President of Estes quoted in Transport Topics what he thought would happen. He really talked very postive about the sale.

I agree with Mr. Estes; Estes has long been one of the top LTL carriers in America. This sale will only make Estes better in the fact that it will give them a direct route to the west coast. Estes's service has always very good and this will add more customers for them to serve. This will be a very good thing for the new customers that they will begin to service.

I have one more point to make; they pay their claims very well. LGI has filed many, many claims in the past several years and if (in order) they pay very quickly.

I think this is a very good thing to add to the ever changing, competive LTL market.
